Getting Ready for the Show

We have been hard at work at Maple and Moss as we get ready for the Seattle Miniature Show in March. There’s been a lot of careful trim work happening—slow, precise, and very much worth the effort—alongside interior updates that are helping these vintage houses begin to feel grounded and cohesive. We will be exhibiting 3 houses and have a number listed for sale in their “Mini-Acres”.

We have mostly completed The Tennyson & Glencroft renovations. Not everything happens easily, but each adjustment brings the work closer to where it wants to be.

The Tennyson in particular was a tough one as the wood was fairly degraded. We weren’t able to get the windows as smooth as we would have liked but we are really happy with the end product.

The 2nd house we’ve been working on is what I called the Greenleaf Glencroft Tudor but I recently discovered it’s actually a Duracraft TD-200 Tudor – expanded kit! The 80’s were wild times in the dollhouse world. I decided to take it away from a traditional half timber look and give it more of a Seattle Craftsman feel. I have been drawing a bit of inspiration from the PNW itself; its mood, its textures, its steady persistence in the face of unrelenting rain.

We’re also preparing something entirely new, balancing fresh beginnings with ongoing restorations starting the 1988 Houseworks Victorian. She is a work in progress. This Victorian dollhouse was constructed from plans published in Three Dollhouses in One Book by Houseworks in 1988. Begun but left unfinished in 1989, the structure remained in quiet suspension until we acquired it last month. In completing the house, we decided to minimize some of the traditional Victorian embellishments, allowing proportion, material, and design to take precedence. This will be a beautiful house when its done. I hope you get the chance to see it at the show.
